  • Be open to hiring homeless and formerly homeless persons.
  • Understand that, when you hire a formerly homeless person, you are also getting a support team.
  • Network with companies that already have successful employees who used to be homeless.
  • Review hiring screening policies and create a pilot program to hire formerly homeless people.
  • Participate in the Career Readiness Credential offered through Durham Technical Community College.
  • Participate in the Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce’s and other workforce development efforts, especially those targeted at putting formerly homeless people to work.
  • Participate in Jobs for Life programs.
  • Offer a living wage to all employees.
